Custom Block Sounds

Calls something that is on Kiln's roadmap. Parts of it may already run.

Evidence

Ran on Kiln's test stand (2026-11-04): CustomBlockSoundsClient did not start: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: net/minecraft/server/packs/resources/PreparableReloadListener.

What it needs from Kiln

  • Mixin
  • net.fabricmc.fabric.api.resource.v1.ResourceLoader
  • net.minecraft.client.resources.sounds.SimpleSoundInstance
  • net.minecraft.client.sounds.SoundEngine
  • net.minecraft.client.sounds.SoundEngine.PlayResult
  • net.minecraft.client.sounds.SoundManager
  • net.minecraft.core.BlockPos.MutableBlockPos
  • net.minecraft.server.packs.PackType
  • net.minecraft.server.packs.resources.Resource
  • net.minecraft.server.packs.resources.ResourceManager
  • net.minecraft.server.packs.resources.PreparableReloadListener
  • Minecraft.getSoundManager()
  • DefaultedRegistry.getOptional()
  • RandomSource.nextIntBetweenInclusive()
  • Level.canSeeSky()
  • Level.getOverworldClockTime()
  • Level.isRaining()
  • SoundType.getBreakSound()
  • SoundType.getFallSound()
  • SoundType.getHitSound()
  • SoundType.getPlaceSound()
  • SoundType.getStepSound()

On the roadmap: Minecraft's libraries and client API (0.2), Code next to data (0.3), Mixin (0.5)

In the author's words

Resource-pack-driven block sound overrides: break, fall, hit, place, step and ambient (idle) sounds per blockstate, with volume, pitch, chance and condition settings in blockmap.json.

Scan

Scanned on 4 November 2026 against Kiln 0.2.0, file customblocksounds-1.0.1+26.jar. The scan reads the mod's classes; it does not run them.
